Methodologies for the Determination of Blood Alpha1 Antitrypsin Levels: A Systematic Review
2021
Background: The study of hematic concentrations of alpha1 antitrypsin (AAT) is currently one step in the diagnosis of AAT deficiency. To try to clarify the relevance of the laboratory techniques, we carried out a systematic review of the literature. Methods: Studies evaluating the quantification of AAT in peripheral blood were searched in PubMed in July 2021. The selection criteria included (1) any type of study design that included a quantification of AAT in peripheral blood; (2) studies written in English or Spanish; (3) studies evaluating human beings; and (4) studies involving adults. Results: Out of 207 studies, the most frequently used techniques were nephelometry (43.9%), followed by…
IgA anti-actin antibodies ELISA in coeliac disease: A multicentre study.
2007
Previous studies have demonstrated that serum anti-actin antibodies are a reliable marker of intestinal damage severity in coeliac disease. To validate in a multicentre study the clinical usefulness of serum IgA anti-actin antibody ELISA and its possible use in monitoring intestinal mucosa lesions during gluten-free diet.Four centres recruited 205 newly diagnosed coeliac disease patients with villous atrophy, 80 healthy controls and 81 "disease" controls. Twelve coeliac disease patients on gluten-free diet but with persistent symptoms underwent serum IgA anti-actin antibody assay and intestinal histology evaluation. IgA anti-actin antibody ELISA was performed with a commercial kit. All coeli…
Evaluation of FASP, SP3, and iST Protocols for Proteomic Sample Preparation in the Low Microgram Range
2017
Efficient and reproducible sample preparation is a prerequisite for any robust and sensitive quantitative bottom-up proteomics workflow. Here, we performed an independent comparison between single-pot solid-phase-enhanced sample preparation (SP3), filter-aided sample preparation (FASP), and a commercial kit based on the in-StageTip (iST) method. We assessed their performance for the processing of proteomic samples in the low μg range using varying amounts of HeLa cell lysate (1-20 μg of total protein). All three workflows showed similar performances for 20 μg of starting material. When handling sample sizes below 10 μg, the number of identified proteins and peptides as well as the quantitat…
Advanced methods of plant disease detection. A review
2014
International audience; Plant diseases are responsible for major economic losses in the agricultural industry worldwide. Monitoring plant health and detecting pathogen early are essential to reduce disease spread and facilitate effective management practices. DNA-based and serological methods now provide essential tools for accurate plant disease diagnosis, in addition to the traditional visual scouting for symptoms. Although DNA-based and serological methods have revolutionized plant disease detection, they are not very reliable at asymptomatic stage, especially in case of pathogen with systemic diffusion. They need at least 1–2 days for sample harvest, processing, and analysis. Here, we d…
